College and Things
Today we went to Columbia and Northwestern.
Columbia-It was different than I thought it would be. I think of college as a more Hilhi campus, but I know this is not the case anymore. Columbia was all over the place, at least the buildings were. It was kind of hard to find where the dance building was. But we did eventually find it. I have decided that I don't want to go there. Why? The dance they do is based pretty much on modern. They have other classes, but those classes are to support modern. I'm not a modern dancer. Sure I'd like to take a modern class every so once in a while, but I wouldn't want to have that as my major (or minor). So Columbia is off the list.
Northwestern-This seemed more like a "Me" college. It was near the lake, with grass and trees near it. Northwestern's dance program focuses more on jazz and modern with other classes avaliable. The lady we talked to said they "focused" on jazz and modern because they didn't want people to think that because they offer ballet, that people are ready to head of to Joffrey right out of college. She said their dance classes are all very strong and some say the ballet is the strongest. She also said that the ballet teacher is awesome. Funny story about the dance program: my cousin went here and tried out for it. The lady we talked to today told my cousin once upon a time ago that she'd be great for the program if she just had the technique (my cousin used to dance). It was kind of funny. Northwestern is a keeper, so far. At least, I'm going to apply and see if I get in.
Northwestern has 2 studios with no mirrors. I don't like that. I like being able to correct myself. That was the nice thing about Columbia. In their "ballet room", mirrors were present. Still, I liked Northwestern better than Columbia. Howwever, we're still looking, since this porcess is usually a long, hard one.
Tonight, we're eating at the Cheesecake Factory. I can't wait. I've never been there before and I LOVE cheesecake.
I think Brooke got all of us sick, me especially. My throat hurts and I've woken up for the past couple of days groggy. I hope we get better before Disney World.
As for the cousin/Elizabeth problem. We're planning on driving Sunday night to St. Louis and stay the night. Then we're getting up early to go to Indiana to visit a relative who would kill us if we didn't visit (Dad's name would be mud in the family). Then we're going to visit Elizabeth and visit the college the next morning. We haven't changed the college visit yet, but we're planning on visiting it the next morning no matter what. Now, I don't believe this will help our health, but Brooke is insistant on visiting St. Louis, so we'll probably continue to be sick until we get home, where we'll actually have relaxing time. Oh well.
