Unexpected Update
So I guess the hotel an internet connection. Here is an update for you guys.
June 26
Yesterday was tiresome. Not only could I not sleep the night before, but well….I couldn’t sleep the night before!!!! I ended up throwing things that I wanted to pack on the floor near my suitcase. The time of sleep ended up being about 3:00 AM.
Then next day I woke up for church at 7:30. Then we went home and officially packed. After rushing Grandma to the airport, we went to Hairspray. It was ok. It wasn’t my favorite, but it was better than some that I’ve seen. It’ll be interesting to see the differences between the Portland show and the Broadway one. At one point, we think an actor might have broken character. Our clue was that he looked off-stage while he was laughing. However, it could have been apart of the show. I guess we’ll see the differences tomorrow. After Hairspray, we took a 2 hour shopping spree at Lloyd Center. I found a really sweet new top. However, we couldn’t find pants to wear with them. But that didn’t stop us from bringing the shirt along anyways. I found a pair of tennis shoes that are pretty neat too. While at Lloyd Center, I was flirted with from a lazy-eyed cook, sworn at by a little black girl (she looked at me and said “D***!”), and….there was something else but I don’t remember what….Brooke should remember. However, I’m lazy and I don’t want to go to a different room to ask her. Anywho, then we hurried off to the airport, where we met élan. Once together, the long, long plan ride began. I slept about a total of 1 hour. That’s right…1 hour.
Today seemed to drag on for forever. Once in NYC, we got to our hotel and actually got into our rooms (an unexpected surprise). The time of this wonderful event was about 11:45 AM NYC time. Then an hour later, we went out to wander the streets of New York. It rained sooo much. Kind of funny since in Oregon it is supposedly sunny and really warm, while in NY it is supposed to rain and be cloudy the entire time. Oh well….c’est la vie. At the tour of the Lincoln Center, the most incredible thing happened…ok, two things happened. One…..I saw Angel Corella! I know this probably means nothing to you guys however, he was like 10 feet away stretching. It was unfortunate that we weren’t allowed to talk or anything, otherwise I would have asked for his autograph. It was amazing! The second thing was that we were able to watch a part of the rehearsal for the show that went on tonight. Oh…I forgot to say which company this was…..none other than the American Ballet Theatre!!!!! We watched a rehearsal of ABT’s production of Swan Lake. It was soo cool. This leads me to the last and final most exciting thing. Basically my trip is over now….ok that’s a lie. But this event really made my day. We were able to actually go to Swan Lake. And it was for a pretty cheap price too. We got decent seats in the 2nd balcony for $23. It was soooo cool. The dancing was amazing! Granted I did fall asleep during the beginning of the second act…but hey, I was running on 1 hour of sleep. And I only fell asleep for a little bit. Once the black swan came on I was wide awake for the rest of the show. I can’t express enough how excited I was to know that I would see an ABT production. I never thought I would ever see them in person. And not only watch them dance, but see my favorite male dancer up close. Man, what an awesome experience.
Well, I need to go to bed now. Tomorrow we’re taking classes and going to see Hairspray. I’ll type more tomorrow. Good night.

Today was an interesting day. It started off fine and ended wonderfully…however, the middle was not the best it could have been. This morning I had a very good breakfast. Then we went to our dance classes. This is where things get not so pleasurable. The first class was fine. It wasn’t my favorite, but I liked it well enough. It was supposed to be a lyrical jazz, but the dance we did ended up being like a salsa dance instead. It was fun dancing with Brooke. We had partners and she was mine. Fun huh? I think so J Anywho, this class was fine however I didn’t enjoy the next class. The teacher was good, but I didn’t like the style of jazz or the fact that she yelled at me several times. One instance was when we were isolating our hips and she yelled at me to bend my knees more, however I have a pretty short Achilles tendon so I can only bend so far. But she kept yelling at me to bend lower. I just felt horrible. Yeah, it shouldn’t really get to me, but I don’t exactly appreciate being yelled at by a lady I don’t know when I can’t really help the situation. But oh well. Some classes you like and some you don’t. After classes, we dropped our stuff off at the hotel and then went to the Metropolitan Museum. It was pretty cool. There were a lot of really neat paintings and sculptures. Once done with that, we went back to the hotel to get ready for the show and dinner. Dinner was at TGI Friday’s. It was good. Then came Hairspray. It was a lot better than Portland. I think one of the main reasons is because I could actually see the facials and the people in general. I must say that I enjoyed Edna better in Portland, but everyone else was just as good. And the spot where the dad “broke character” happened also in this show. So either they are supposed to do this or this spot in the show is really hard to get through without laughing. Also, Edna laughed too in both shows, so this is another reason why maybe they were supposed to laugh at this part. Anywho, I really enjoyed this show a lot here in NYC. It was spectacular.
Well, tomorrow means 2 Broadway shows. I'm so excited! Chicago and Mamma Mia here I come :) Talk to you all later! Love ya!
